Grilled cheese sandwich

The idea for this grilled cheese was inspired by a sauna, when something quick but still comforting and satisfying was desired. It was thought that a classic grilled cheese could use a little twist, so cream cheese and Dijon mustard were added for extra flavor. It has become my go-to post-sauna snack!

What you’ll need:
(AKA the stuff to make this magic happen)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 container (about 200g) cream cheese (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 4 slices of sourdough bread (or your preferred bread)
  • Butter or margarine (for spreading on the outside of the bread)

How to do it:
(AKA the master plan for cheesy greatness)

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the chopped onion, cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese and Dijon mustard. Stir until the ingredients are well combined.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Spoon a generous amount of the filling onto one slice of bread and top with the other slice.
  3. Butter the Bread: Spread butter or margarine on the outer sides of the bread.
  4. Cook: Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook slowly, pressing gently, until the bread is golden and crispy, and the filling is melted (about 4–5 minutes per side).
  5. Serve: Slice in half and enjoy while warm!

The creaminess and the tang from the Dijon really elevate this sandwich! Would you serve this with a side, or is it meant to be enjoyed on its own?

Enjoy and make a little mess!
